The original green publisher’s cloth boards show moderate rubbing to the extremities, presenting most notably as slight fraying to the spine ends of the first volume and softening to the corners across the set. The blind-stamped borders and gilt spine lettering remain distinct, though the green cloth exhibits some patchy fading, minor scuffing, and a small blemish to the front board of the first volume. Internally, the text blocks are sound and the bindings remain reasonably tight; however, the set suffers from heavy foxing and age-toning, which is particularly pronounced on the preliminary leaves, title pages, and early chapters. The decorative floral endpapers are well-preserved, bearing a small, contemporary stationer's ticket to the front pastedown of the second volume and faint previous ownership initials, with the untrimmed page edges showing expected age-related darkening.
