Photo album of Palestine. An interesting pocket-size photo album of Mandate Palestine, assembled by Arthur Walter Robertson (1917-1982) of the 2nd Battalion, King's Royal Rifle Corps.It opens with photographs of the military parade held by the British forces to mark the coronation of George VI in 1937. Subsequent images focus on urban and rural scenes. Two panoramic views are captioned "Tel Aviv (Jews)" and "Bait Nabala (Arabs)". Other photographs depict holy sites and their surroundings, including the Church of All Nations, the Wailing Wall, the YMCA in Jerusalem, and the British barracks, as well as a row of rabbis walking down the street and covering their faces to avoid being photographed, Muslim workers praying in the fields, and a young man riding a donkey through a Jerusalem market.Several photographs document the Palestinian Revolt of 1936-39, showing fires, explosions, and two overturned locomotives (captioned "a common scene"). In Nablus, British forces demolished buildings in the old quarter where insurgents were alleged to be operating.
