Rolling Bearing Damage Morphological Atlas by Tallian, et. al., SKF - 1974 Edition This hard bound text is a comprehensive manual for determining the mechanism of failure of Rolling Element Bearings. Too many Engineers assume that if a bearing fails, then that failure factors into the calculated life of a rolling element bearing. Unfortunately, the calculated life of a bearing is usually based on fatigue failures due to sub-surf ace fatigue damage. There are lots of failure mechanisms besides fatigue failures and if a bearing fails because of grinding damage or high temperature or improper lubrication or other factors unrelated to classical sub-surf ace fatigue failures, then the data should not be used in a Weibull analysis and all efforts should be made to correct the operating or environmental conditions. This text is an Atlas of Rolling Element Bearing Failures and it is essential to diagnosing the failure mechanism. SKF is one of the most respected bearing manufacturing companies and their support staff was a leader in Engineering Research and Development. Everyone used their literature, especially this failure atlas. This included SKF's competitors. I used this atlas when I worked at Aerospace companies such as Pratt & Whitney and General Electric as well as NTN Bearing Company. NTN had purchased both the ball and roller bearing divisions from Federal Mogul and I worked at the NTN Technical Center which was shut down in 2002. I inherited NTN's library and this book was
