Herold, J. Christopher, ed. and trans. The Mind of Napoleon: A Selection from his Written and Spoken Words. New York: Columbia University Press, 1955. Offered for sale is copy of J. Christopher Herold's The Mind of Napoleon--in its first edition, the first printing, of 1955, from Columbia University Press. This copy is in good condition. The cloth is somewhat worn at the extremities, and the corners, a bit bumped. The finish on the front board was, in one area, incompletely applied on manufacture; the rear board bears a few spots of discoloration. The endpapers are faintly foxed. The binding and hinges are very firm. There are annotations and underscores in pen and pencil, affecting the first ~60 pp. At two leaves, the ink is badly smudged. Perhaps one or two dozen leaves in all are affected, but the smudging is confined to the leaves shown in the listing photos. Copies from the first edition of Herold's book are seldom seen--this remains, despite the annotations, a desirable exemplar. The book will be posted for *FREE* by USPS Priority Mail.
