Copy number one signed by George Daniels. This exquisitely bound copy is number one of only six copies which were reserved for fine binding by Zaehnsdorf and all were bound for named recipients. This copy which is number one was specially bound for G.D.D.Cumming. It is considered to be the definitive history of the renowned Abraham-Louis Breguet watchmaker to Marie-Antoinette and Napoleon. George Daniels was a British master watchmaker and inventor of the co-axial escapement which has been described as one of the most important developments in horology. He made all his watches by hand and only produced a few in his lifetime but he is considered to be one of the greatest watchmakers in history. Limited edition numbered one of only six copies on limitation page. Folio (24 x 25 cm), profusely illustrated with over 400 illustrations including 12 colour plates, signed on title-page by George Daniels, purple calf doublures, decorated with gilt dentelles and the letter Z stamped in gilt on each corner, all edges gillt; specially bound by Zaehnsdorf in full blue morocco gilt, gilt decorated with pocket watch motif on upper cover, spine gilt lettered and decorated, housed in purple cloth slip case; an excellent copy; xi, 394pp.
