The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes.

£850 · Offered by Shapero Rare Books

A first edition of Arthur Conan Doyle's Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes. The book contains the final twelve Sherlock Holmes stories that were published in magazines, wherein Holmes and Watson confront the likes of a supposed vampire and a mysterious lodger. This particular first English edition hyphenated the title while the US edition referred to it as 'Case Book' and later printings often used the singular word 'Casebook.' First edition; 8vo (19.5 x 13 cm); slight corner crease to prelims, some light spotting throughout, mainly to early pages and none affecting text, otherwise a bright and very good copy; later half burgundy morocco over marble boards lined in gilt, spine in 6 compartments with gilt lettering to second and third, gilt decoration to others, marble endpapers, minor signs of general wear, mainly to extremities; 320pp.
