For this edition, material on molecular spectroscopy is integrated into several chapters, and there is more emphasis on Hartree-Fock calculations and the Hartree-Fock-Roothaan method. No knowledge of differential equations is required. All necessary mathematical techniques are developed in the text though short self-contained units, on topics such as complex numbers, vectors, and matrices, presenting just enough material to give students the confidence to use the techniques. About 50 problems per chapter are included, about 600 total, many with answers. Chapters open with brief biographies and b&w photos of pioneers in chemistry and quantum physics.
