ANON. Compagnie Internationale Des Wagon-Lits, Nord-Express. Original luggage label, c.1934. 115 x 140 mm. The Compagnie Internationale Des Wagons-Lits was founded by Georges Nagelmakers to establish a network of luxurious long distance passenger trains across Europe. The Nord Express started in 1896 from Ostend and Paris to St. Petersburg via Cologne, Berlin and Dvinsk. After the Russian revolution in 1917 carriages from the Nord Express were confiscated by the Russian government and were used for the new Trans Siberian express train.
