Tales of Mystery and Imagination. First Tudor edition. Harry Clarke's illustrations for Tales of Mystery and Imagination were first published in 1919 and established his reputation as an illustrator. The book was subsequently reissued in 1923 with additional colour plates, which the present edition reproduces. Clarke (1889-1931) was a leading figure in the Irish arts and crafts movement, particularly noted for his work as a stained-glass artist.
