A Manual of English Literature 1873 Thomas Arnold Leather Prize Binding Edinburg Full calf leather binding with raised bands and gilt title on spine. Both boards feature the gilt-embossed City of Edinburgh coat of arms with the motto “Nisi Dominus Frustra”, denoting a Royal High School of Edinburgh prize binding. Presentation bookplate on front pastedown reads “Scholae Reg. Edin. Alumno hoc praemium... July 1881”, awarded to Thomas A. Wade for Latin, Greek, and English studies. Later ownership label of Ruth M. Payne on the same page. Published by Longmans, Green & Co., London, 1873, this is an elegant Victorian Scottish prize binding in full leather with gilt arms, produced for the Royal High School of Edinburgh.
