Differential and Integral Calculus. First edition in English of this elementary work on applied calculus, originally published in German from 1927 to 1929.Richard Courant (1888-1972) spent much of his early career in Germany, but the rise of the Nazi Party prompted him to flee for Cambridge in 1933: this English edition of the Calculus followed the year after at the request of his American colleagues. Edward J McShane (1904-1989) was one such colleague: he not only undertook the translation itself, but also revised Courant's work to account for the different approach to calculus in the Anglo-American tradition.
