SIGNED and inscribed First Edition of Willie Morris’s The Courting of Marcus Dupree (1983). This copy carries exceptional Oxford, Mississippi literary association and provenance. Willie Morris inscribed this book as a gift from Bill Ferris—noted Mississippi author, folklorist, and longtime friend of Morris - to relatives of Bill Ferris. The inscription documents the personal connection between these two important figures in Oxford’s literary community. Also present is the original Square Books (Oxford, MS) store sticker on the front dust-jacket flap. Square Books is an iconic independent bookstore closely tied to both Morris and Ferris; Morris served as Writer-in-Residence at Ole Miss, and Ferris also taught there. The book has some age darkening on the dust jacket, seen on back of jacket, primarily. There is some wear to the jacket, but in overall good condition. Bottom back edge of book has two small indentions. Condition of book shown in photos. Buyer to pay shipping. I will package carefully in a box and ship promptly.
