[Fair Copy Manuscript in an Unknown Hand of:] "GLORY, GLORY! [OR THE LITTLE OCTOROON]." An early fair copy (in an unknown hand) of the lyrics of the song first written and published by George F. Root (1820-1895), the prolific and popular composer of over thirty songs associated with Union sentiment during and after the Civl War, among them "Tramp, Tramp, Tramp," "The Battle Cry of Freedom", and "The First Gun is Fired.," the first song concerning the war circulated with the first week of the firing on Fort Sumter. The manuscript does not compare favorably with Root's own handwriting.
