[ALBUM OF ORIGINAL DRAWINGS, SIGNATURES, AND MANUSCRIPT SENTIMENTS, WITH ORIGINAL CRUIKSHANK INK SKETCHES]. An appealing sort of autograph book compiled by the keeper of the print room at the British Museum, with original sketches and signatures from many of the period's most popular artists and literary figures. John Taylor Smith (1766–1833), himself a printmaker and draughtsman, was appointed to his post at the museum in 1816, and was "an attentive, informed and engaging figure in that role" (DNB). The truth of that statement is is evidenced by the warmth and breadth of the charming sentiments, signatures, and sketches collected here. Some highlights include:1.
