The fourth expanded edition of Lyte's (1848-1940) popular history of England's most renowned school, with presentation inscription in ink to the front fly leaf for 'Robin Sykes with every good wish from his tutor on leaving Eton July 1936, H. H-S. Hartley'. Colonel Robin George Sykes (b. 1917) would serve in the Royal Army Medical Corps, become a Fellowof the Faculty of Anaesthetists, Royal College of Surgeons of England, was awarded the Territorial Decoration, and made HM Honorary Surgeon in 1964. Fourth edition, revised and enlarged; 8vo (25.5 x 18 cm); gift inscription in pen to front free endpaper, folding colour plan of Eton College and numerous other illustrations including an engraved frontispiece, full colour plates, and woodcut initials; contemporary full red morocco by Spottiswood and Co, spine lettered in gilt in six compartments, all edges gilt, occasional light spotting, spine a touch faded, else a fine copy; 627 pp.
