HAWKING, Stephen; SAGAN, Carl (intro.).
Inquire · Offered by Peter Harrington
A Brief History of Time. First US edition, the suppressed first printing, with the correct jacket, of one of the most popular science works of all time. Sagan's introduction lauds Hawking as "a worthy successor" to Newton and Dirac, two of his predecessors as Lucasian Professor of Mathematics. The first US edition was published simultaneously with the UK edition in April 1988. This first printing had a number of errors and was subsequently recalled for destruction. It is identifiable by its light blue endpapers, lack of contents page or dedication statement, and the incorrect labelling of various figures. This copy retains its original jacket, with a silvery light-blue colour similar to that of the UK first edition.
