Geometry of Complex Domains: A Seminar, 1935-36. First edition of these notes capturing a year's worth of work by two of the early 20th century's most prominent geometers. Veblen and von Neumann were among the earliest professors at the IAS, which had only been established five years earlier.Veblen (1880-1960) and von Neumann (1903-1957) arrived at the IAS in 1932 and 1933 respectively, but they had worked together at Princeton University since 1930. This volume records their work in a seminar series over the 1935-36 academic year, exploring the theory of linear and anti-linear transformations in complex projective n-space and applying these concepts to spinor theory. In recent years, scholars have demonstrated how these theories could be used to explain the physical nature of the cosmological redshift - the distorted wavelength of light emitted from a source moving away from Earth. The lectures for the seminars were given by Veblen and his assistant, James Wallace Givens (1910-1993) - von Neumann presumably acting as more of a respondent - and the notes were compiled by Givens and Abraham Haskel Taub, who later worked with von Neumann on terminal ballistics and shock waves during World War II.
