Hai-Ho Conservancy Commission. Report for 1932. First edition. Alongside routine maintenance and scientific examination of the channel, in 1932 the commission supervised the laying of submarine cables to repair the International Bridge (captured in six photographic half-tones) and the experimental diversion of freshets to ease the risk of over-silting. "Connected with the sea by an artificial river, Tianjin's status as a seaport was heavily dependent on the continuous conservancy efforts of the Hai Ho and its tributaries" ("River Conservancy"). Formed in 1897, the Hai Ho Conservancy Commission focused on reducing flood risks and opening the waterway to shipping, for example by straightening the channel and thereby cutting the route to the sea by 17 miles. Its publications are generally rare, and this report is untraced institutionally.
