About the author: George Arbor West (1859-1938) was a lawyer, archeologist and public servant. After graduation from McMynn's academy in Racine, he taught for three years in rural schools. He later moved to Milwaukee to study and practice law. Mr. West's archeological interests took him to Yellowstone national park, the Great Lakes region and several other parts of the United States as well as England and Nicaragua. He was a life member of the Wisconsin Historical society, a member of the Wisconsin Academy of Science, Arts, and Letters, a charter member of the Wisconsin Automobile association and of the Milwaukee Real Estate board. He was a thirty-second degree Mason. Mr. West was a founding member of the Wisconsin Archeological Society. His archeological finds are displayed in multiple venues, including the public museum where his aboriginal pipe collection, various artifacts and primitive objects may be seen.
