The Compleat Court-Keeper: or, Land-Steward's Assistant. First edition of this practical manual for conducting manorial courts, which underwent eight editions by 1819.This was the first book of Giles Jacob (1686-1744), "the leading legal writer of his age" (Greenwood). It probably drew on his experience as steward and secretary to the politician William Blathwayt."One of the most heavily used examples of [manorial manuals]... it contains a detailed description of the method of holding a manorial court and gives numerous examples of the format of particular types of document which a manorial steward might need to use in the course of his duties.
