The first fantasy/science fiction offering by Edmondson, who also wrote westerns using the names Kelly P. Gast, J. B. Masterson, and Jack Logan. It became an instant classic - Ace Books would keep it in print for another two decades after its initial publication. A story about an experimental navy vessel thrown back a thousand years into the past during a storm, it was nominated for a Nebula award for Best Novel in 1965, but lost out to Frank Herbert's *Dune*.
