A fine view of the fortified town of Calais and its environs, recalling king Louis XIV's gradual acquisition of territory on the Channel coast from 1667 onwards. This excellent panorama shows Calais as seen from the landward side looking across to the ramparts of the fortifications surrounding the town, to the roofs of the town itself and then beyond to the sea.
