Now We Are Six.
£1,800 · Offered by Shapero Rare Books
A bright example of the third of the Christopher Robin books, comprising a delightful collection of rhymes and verses, some of which, such as 'Us Two' and 'The Friend' feature Winnie-The-Pooh. The final one, 'The End', has the now famous final couplet; 'But now I am Six, I'm as clever as clever. So I think I'll be six now for ever and ever.' First edition, deluxe issue; 8vo (187 x 130 mm); illustrations by Ernest H. Shepard, pictorial endpapers, offsetting from jacket flaps (strip of browning) to half-title and verso of final page, a few scattered marks, pastedowns with the odd spot, else internally near-fine; publisher's pictorial cloth, gilt, spine darkened, spine ends and corners a little rubbed and bumped, top edge gilt, dust-jacket, spine browned, some surface soiling and a few nicks, otherwise very good-plus.
