Scarlet and Blue. A Hunting Novel. First edition of this unusual hunting novel by a close associate of Aleister Crowley. Containing several references to Crowley's Boleskine House in the Scottish Highlands, the novel was "specifically inspired by Crowley's time at Boleskine and his complex nature" (National Library of Scotland). Crowley bought the house as a remote site at which to complete the six-month Abramelin ritual. He lived there between 1899 and 1913; Jewell (1866-1947) joined as his companion from 1903. During this time, Jewell worked on a project of Celtic revival, which he wished to culminate in the unification of a Celtic empire. He was also a Welsh bard and an advocate of the Celtic heritage of Cornwall. Boleskine was later the home of Led Zeppelin's guitarist Jimmy Page. The novel is scarce. WorldCat records only five institutional holdings: the British Library, the National Library of Scotland, and the University of Cambridge in the UK, and the universities of New York and Emory in the US.
