Osyp Makovei (1867-1925) was a Ukrainian renaissance figure, a writer and poet, a publicist, a critic, editor, and publisher, who lived and worked in Galicia. He promoted Ukrainian and Bukovinian writers. He was a gifted translator who introduced the Ukrainian reader to the major 19th and early 20th century literary greats, including Polish. Myroslav Moroz was a prominent bibliography, literary critic, ethographer and folklorist from Lviv. First edition, 8vo (20.5 x 13 cm); small Ukrainian ownership inscription in ink to title, private library stamp with pencil numbering to verso, some minor foxing and staining throughout; original illustrated wrappers designed by Pavlo Kovzhun, repairs to spine, a good copy.
