Views of China. Panama-Pacific International Exposition. [Together with:] Views of China. Presented by the Chinese Business Party as a Memento of Their Visit to U.S.A. First editions. The photobook distributed at the exposition is inscribed opposite the preface by Chen Chi (1878-1925), the head of the Chinese delegation. During the event's February-December 1915 run in San Francisco, the Chinese pavilion quickly became one of the star attractions, and the country's manufactures scooped over 1,000 awards. Chen's Chinese inscription records that he inscribed the volume during the event.The second photobook was distributed during a separate 1915 fact-finding and investment mission led by Cheong Fatt Tze (1841-1916), the head of the All China Chamber of Commerce. His 50-day tour of the States and his plans to form a Sino-American bank were front-page news and he quickly became known as the "Rockefeller of the East".Both works comprise photographs of the most famous landmarks, places, and views in China.
