FIVE YEARS A DRAGOON ('49 TO '54). AND OTHER ADVENTURES ON THE GREAT PLAINS. First edition of Sergeant Lowe's experiences while on assignment at Fort Leavenworth from 1849 to 1854. Lowe was also a cavalryman on the Santa Fe Trail from 1852 to 1854 and continued to travel the Trail as a freight contractor after his service hitch. This work of frontier history is based on the journals he kept during his time of service.
