Verses 1883-1935. A typescript compilation of Walker's poems with her inscribed visiting card loosely inserted, "For Mattie from her old friend Laura with much love - June 1935 -". A painter, textile designer, and writer, Walker was part of the Cornish Art Colony, a collaborative group led by the sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens in New Hampshire.Walker (1857-1938) published two volumes of poetry - Songs of Then and Now (1905) and Twenty Four Quatrains (1914) - and contributed to periodicals including as The Outlook, Harper's Magazine, the Century Magazine, and Poet Lore. The collection, comprising both published and unpublished poems, is arranged into the sections "Childhood", "Youth", "War", "The Sea", "Life and Nature", and "Songs". Several of the poems are captioned with the places that inspired them, such as "Pigeon Cove" for "Give Me the Sea" and Como, New Jersey, for "Pellucid Wave With Foaming Crest". One poem, "Waiting", is captioned as having been set to music by the composer Mary Knight Wood and sung by the baritone David Bispham. Walker's husband was the mural painter Henry Oliver Walker (1843-1929), known for his series in the Library of Congress depicting famous poets. She was also a close friend of the architect Charles A. Platt, who designed her house, and the artists Richard and Helena Gilder. Her other projects included organizing a 1928 exhibition of embroidered panels at Grace Horne Galleries, Boston, and founding the Cornish's "Mothers' and Daughters' Club"
