Rackham was a leading figure in the Golden Age of Illustration, as exemplified by this book. First edition, deluxe issue, one of 1,110 copies signed by Rackham on the limitation page; 4to (285 x 230 mm); William Heinemann windmill watermark to half-title, 13 tipped-in colour plates with captioned tissue-guards, illustrations throughout text, offset to front and rear free endpaper due to binding, some foxing to front and rear endpaper, the occasional minor spot to a few pages, very small tear to edge of ix leaf, otherwise very good; contemporary green crushed morocco for Hatchard's, spine in 6 gilt compartments, decorative panelling and floral quatrefoil corner pieces incorporating red morocco onlays to covers, all edges gilt, very mild rubbing to extremities, small, light scratch to rear board, otherwise a most attractive, period binding; [xii], 160pp.
