Kathmandu Valley inventory Preservation of Physical Environment & Cultural Heritage -- A Protective Inventory This set of two matching hardcover books provides a detailed physical inventory of the most important cultural and religious sites in the Kathmandu Valley, one of the oldest continually inhabited places on the earth. These English language books were published by His Majesty's Government of Nepal in 1975 in collaboration with the United Nations and UNESCO, the Austrian Federal Government and the JDR 3rd Foundation. The books represent the first complete assessment of the Kathmandu Valley's rich heritage that has ever been compiled for the outside world. It served as a template for other historic sites to be declared World Heritage Areas. And it became a useful tool for scholars and scientists who studied the area, especially after the destructive earthquake of 2015. Volume 1 consists of 32 preservation districts -- 3 towns, 29 historic settlements, 46 monument zones and 24 natural preservation districts. Volume 2 contains a special inventory with more than 800 individual objects and sites, of which 376 are in Kathmandu alone. The landscape-format books measure 16.5 by 11.25 inches (42 by 29 cm) and contain 256 and 267 pages. The set comes complete in its original fitted cardboard slipcase.
