The Woman in Black. First edition, inscribed by the author on the half-title, "To David, signed with pleasure Susan Hill December 1983". A "ghost story in the classic 19th-century tradition", The Woman in Black was adapted for the stage by Stephen Mallatratt in 1987, running until 2023 (The Guardian). This made it the second longest-running West End play. It has proved enduringly popular, with a number of radio, television, and film adaptations, including a 2012 film starring Daniel Radcliffe.
