Contains recipes for making different kinds of varnishes, glues, cements, dyes, colored paints, as well as for various edibles and drinkables, including wines, vinegars, liquors, essential oils, and confectioneries. Emblematic of the early national effort to promote American domestic manufactures. Denoted the "Third American Edition" of an English translation of Secrets Concernant les Arts et Metiers, published originally in London in 1775. ESTC records a Norwich, Connecticut, edition in 1795, but no other North American printing that would serve as the other precedent. ESTC locates fifteen copies.
