A beautifully illustrated publication about sculptures of the Asuka period (538-710 AD), when Nara became the capital of Japan. The Asuka period was strongly influenced by the Chinese Tang dynasty and some of best Buddhist sculpture was produced during this period. This book was jointly published by the Nara Art Research Institute and Maruzen in Osaka. Excellent photographs by Watanabe Shuho.
