A fine example of Whessell's work, who both painted and engraved this image, print number 7 from his 'Portraits of Celebrated Running Horses' series, here re-printed by Orme Whessell issued eight plates in this series between 1806 and 1808. All eight were republished by Edward Orme in 1809. John Whessell was both an engraver and painter of some ability.
