A charming, and very early view of Queen's Road in Hong Kong Hildebrandt, was born in Danzig now Gdansk, Poland . After serving as an apprentice to his father, a house painter, Hildebrandt moved to Berlin at nineteen where he studied under the German landscape and marine painter Wilhelm Krause. Around 1842, Hildebrandt moved to Paris and entered Eugene Isabey's atelier where he became connected to fellow landscape and maritime painter Eugène Lepoittevin. Upon his
