De rerum natura libri sex. Second Baskerville edition, the first in pocket-size format, in an attractive contemporary binding. Preceding the private press movement by over a century, Baskerville "first introduced into England what is generally termed 'fine printing', by producing a type of superior elegance and an ink which gave additional beauty to the type" (Benton, p. 47).This edition was published in quarto in 1772 as part of Baskerville's celebrated series of Latin classics, which also included Virgil, Catullus, Terence, Tibullus, Propertius, Horace, Juvenal, and Sallust. They have been described as "a wonderful typographic legacy; they deserve reading more than an analysis of their design. Nonetheless, their design is what makes them so readable, so comforting, so sure in their values & so respectful of the artistic achievements of their authors" (Hull, p. 196).
