He thanks him for his kind words about “our exhibition,“ almost certainly referring to the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society Show held that year, and for his compliments on Crane’s work: “I think the amount of interest it [the show] has excited, the recognition of its importance by the press generally ia a good sign.“ Barrett was best known for his paintings of the Crimean war, which included Florence Nightingale at Scutari. Very nice condition.
