In Hand and Soul, Rossetti meditates on aesthetics and spirituality through a narrative about the artistic development and mystic experiences of Chiaro dell'Erma, a fictional young painter in 13th-century Italy.The story was originally printed in the first issue of the Pre-Raphaelite magazine The Germ in 1850.
