SMITH & DU MOULIN'S CHICAGO DIRECTORY, FOR THE YEAR ENDING MAY 1, 1860. Mid-19th-century Chicago directory of residents (listed alphabetically) and businesses (organized by interest). Residents are listed along with their professions, and a helpful early reader has updated or corrected a handful of addresses. Many of the advertisements throughout are illustrated with flair, and a number are printed on different colored paper. Also contains a street index and an appendix of "all necessary information of the City, its Government, Churches, Police, Fire Department, Military, Educational Interests, Railroads, etc." An interesting document of pre-Civil War (and pre-fire) Chicago.
