THE HISTORY OF THE WARS OF NEW-ENGLAND, WITH THE EASTERN INDIANS. OR, A NARRATIVE OF THEIR CONTINUED PERFIDY AND CRUELTY.... One of the primary sources for the early Indian wars of New England, describing the fighting on the northern and eastern borders of Massachusetts during Queen Anne's War of 1703-13, as well as fighting in 1722-25. Vail calls it an "excellent history," and Field adds that Penhallow's "work on the Indian wars is esteemed as the highest authority on that subject." Penhallow, although having gone to Massachusetts as a missionary, became a chief justice of the colony, and as such was in an excellent position to know about colonial military affairs.Accorded a "c" rating by Howes, Vail calls Penhallow's work an "excellent history" and Field ranks it "among the rarest of New England imprints." A somewhat wounded but quite attractive copy of an extremely scarce book.
