The Canary and Other Poems.

£85 · Offered by Maggs Bros Ltd

Small book label of the school master, Moray Library Poet (three titles, more than any other author), and inveterate biblio-pest, Thomas Hutchinson. Tipped onto the dedication page is an Autograph Letter Signed, 3 1/4 pp., 16mo, 24 June 1895, from the author to Hutchinson about their Moray Library titles and the series itself: “I have a distinct recollection of your three volumes in the ‘Moray Library’–I wish the publisher had fulfilled his promise of a little case to hold the Series distinct… . My ‘Canary’ had a somewhat graver note than the ‘Bookworm’ [and] ‚‘Notes and Jingles’ perhaps, but probably more in accordance with Mr. Murray’s intentions.– … .My late friend Hon. Roden Noel agrees in your preference for the ‘Sonnets.’–… .What became of your ‘Shelley?’“ Wrappers unevenly soiled but a clean and tight copy otherwise.
