Commemorative Address to Ernest Pandorf Esq. of Dunster House, E.C.

£1,750 · Offered by Shapero Rare Books

illuminated commemorative address A fine illuminated presentation address showing the different aspects of the rice trade of Burma addressed to Ernest Pandorf on the jubilee of his arrival in Burma, from the Merchants Guild of Burma. This would have been originally enclosed in a presentation casket, though this is not present here as the address was likely framed for a place of honour in the recipient's home. Waterlow Sons, apart from being printers and engravers, were one of the leading producers of bank notes and stamps in the second half of the nineteenth century. This presentation is unique and highly unusual in the scenes of Burmese life it reproduces. Tall single vellum sheet backed onto wooden board, 560 x 205 mm, with original calligraphy and watercolours.
