Rare, signed first edition, inscribed to the wife of Rear Admiral Frances J. Mee. Author from Vicksburg, Mississippi. This is a rare, signed first edition of Whereon To Stand by Southern author and editor John Gilland Brunini. The book is warmly inscribed on the front endpaper, to his friend Sue Kelly Mee. Both Brunini and Mrs. Mee were born in Vicksburg, Mississippi, adding regional significance to this personal association copy. Sue Kelly Mee was the wife of Rear Admiral Francis J. Mee, a decorated U. S. Navy officer of Chippewa descent, a heroic naval leader of World War II and among the first Native American flag officers. Condition details - No dust jacket. Red hardcover shows some age darkening. Small rub spot on front cover, about the size of a dime. Additional light rubbing/bumping along top and bottom edges of boards. Interior pages have age toning, mostly confined to blank front and rear endpapers. Pages are supple, clean and free from brittleness or tears. No markings other than the author's inscription. No smoke odor. Signed first edition by a noted Southern author. Association copy incribed to a woman of historical interest.
