The favourable reception accorded to that book is an indication of the widespread interest in the subject. Although Volume I remains the standard reference work on submachine guns for the early period, much has happened since that date of publication. The present volume is intended to bring the story up to the present, so far as this is practicable. The Machine Pistol is also covered completely, and an attempt is made to explain why this weapon, so often condemned as unsatisfactory, now seems to be again in favour.
