The textile department of the Wiener Werkstätte was formally established around 1910, seven years after the founding of this influential association of artists and craftsmen. This department quickly became renowned for its innovative printed fabrics, which served the fashion industry, interior decoration for affluent clients, and the general public. The designs were created by approximately 100 artists, including the association’s co-founder Josef Hoffmann, as well as notable figures such as Dagobert Peche, Carl Otto Czeschka, Maria Likarz, and Max Snischek. This collection, *Textiles of the Wiener Werkstätte, 1910-1932*, offers a comprehensive selection of original gouache drawings, pattern books, and around 20,000 fabric samples. These samples are part of the collection at the Austrian Museum for Applied Arts, Vienna, representing one of the most extensive archives of Wiener Werkstätte fabric designs, with over 1,800 recorded patterns.
