Signed by Nureyev Matsuyuma Ballet company was founded in Tokyo in 1948 by the ballerina Mikiko Matsuyuma. Rufolf Nureyev made his Japanese debut in 1963, when he danced with the company alongside Dame Margot Fonteyn. On his second visit in 1983, he danced at the 35th anniversary of the founding of the company. This programme is dated from the summer of 1985, when the company was invited to collaborate in the 'Nureyev Festival', at the London Coliseum. Performances of Swan Lake and Giselle took place between July and August, usually at a time of year when it was common for big houses to invite artists and ensembles from different parts of the world. Signed programme; (240 x 250mm); featuring several photographs in colour and b w, signed in ink by Rudolf Nureyev on p12; softcover programme, black lettering to front cover with sepia-toned photograph of Rudolf Nureyev and Yoko Morishita, unique cultural document celebrating fruitful collaboration of artistic forces, in very good condition.
