The work examines Haiti’s political upheavals, social structure, foreign relations and the long aftermath of revolution, including the period of American intervention. Davis wrote from the perspective of a long-term observer of Haiti and attempted to synthesize a wide range of historical material for the general reader. The book is illustrated, and published copies of this 1936 revised edition are also noted as including black-and-white plates and a fold-out map. Published by Dodge Publishing Company of New York in 1936, this is the Revised Edition, with a preface by Alec Waugh.
