The town of Mauchline, Ayrshire, was the site of one of Robert Burns's most creative periods as well as the birthplace of Mauchline ware: a form of high quality, 19th-century souvenir which helped to satisfy the desires of a growing tourist trade. Often made of sycamore, a Mauchline binding has its covers adorned with transfer-printed imagery before the wood is heavily varnished. This edition of Burns is equally well-decorated, featuring illustrations from 14 different Scottish artists.
