'Beast?' Jane murmured. 'Then God make me a beast; for, man or beast, I am yours.' First edition in book form of the first Tarzan novel. The story first appeared in the pulp magazine The All-Story, vol. XXIV, no. 2 (October 1912). The character was so popular that Burroughs continued the series into the 1940s with two dozen sequels. First edition, first issue; 8vo; half-title, pictorial title-page after Fred J. Arting; full burgundy morocco by Baytun-Riviere of Bath, with the original cloth covers and spine bound-in, cloth in first state without acorn on spine panel, all edges gilt; a very good copy.
