Antique Holy Bible published in New York by the American Bible Society in 1851, containing the Old and New Testaments. Beautiful embossed period binding with elaborate geometric decoration. This copy has especially appealing personal history, including early handwritten ownership inscriptions, two “Mrs. W. Clark” ownership stamps, an old pasted-in obituary clipping, and a dried flower preserved between the pages. The clipping records the death of Mrs. S.C. Clark of Lancaster, adding an intriguing genealogical element. A wonderfully evocative Civil War-era American Bible with more than 175 years of history. The binding shows substantial age and wear, including heavy spine deterioration and losses, with foxing, staining and other age-related wear throughout. Please review photographs.
